How to Use Magnesium Oil: A Step-by-Step Guide

Magnesium oil is quick to apply – but a few tricks make using it more pleasant. Here you’ll learn step by step how to use magnesium oil as a spray, in a foot bath or as a gel.
What is magnesium oil, actually?
Magnesium oil is a concentrated solution of magnesium chloride and water. So it isn’t an oil at all, but it feels slightly oily on the skin – hence the name. Our magnesium oil comes from the Zechstein deposit in the Netherlands and contains 105 mg of magnesium per millilitre.
Magnesium oil spray: how to use it in 3 steps
- Spray on: 5–10 sprays onto clean skin – for example on your arms, legs, shoulders or neck.
- Massage in: Spread it gently with your hand until your skin no longer feels wet.
- Leave it on: After about 20 minutes you can rinse off any residue with water if you like.
It’s most pleasant on slightly damp skin straight after a shower or bath. Many people use magnesium oil in the evening as part of their body-care routine or after sport.
How much magnesium oil per use?
5–10 sprays are enough to start with. One spray is roughly 0.1–0.2 ml. Increase the amount slowly once you’re used to how it feels on your skin.
Tingling on the skin – is that normal?
Yes. Especially the first few times, or on freshly shaved skin, you may feel a slight tingle or warmth. This is typical of a concentrated magnesium chloride solution. If it’s too strong for you:
- apply it to damp skin,
- dilute the oil 1:1 with water or mix it with a little body lotion,
- don’t use it straight after shaving.
Do not apply magnesium oil to broken or irritated skin, mucous membranes or the eyes.
Magnesium foot bath
For a foot bath, add about 100 ml of magnesium oil to 4–5 litres of warm water (around 37–39 °C) and soak your feet for 20–30 minutes. The 1-litre refill bottle is ideal for this.
Spray or gel?
The magnesium oil spray is easy to dose and absorbs quickly. The magnesium gel doesn’t drip, is milder and works well for massages. For on the go, the 100 ml spray bottle is handy.
In short
- 5–10 sprays, massage in gently, rinse off after 20 minutes if needed.
- Tingling is normal at first – diluting helps.
- For foot baths, about 100 ml to 4–5 litres of water.
